ESET Smart Security 9 received the highest rating in the AV-Comparative File Detection Test and was awarded with the File Detection, Advanced + Award. The File Detection Test assesses the ability of antivirus programs to detect malicious files on a system. While the test only assesses one antimalware feature of the programs, this feature is important for a security solution because it can identify malware attacks from sources other than the internet, and detect malicious files already present on the system.

ESET Takes Virus Bulletin (VB100) Award Number 81!

ESET VB100 Win #81ESET NOD32 Antivirus has achieved the longest unbroken string of Virus Bulletin VB100 Awards — a testament to the consistent high-quality performance of ESET security across all platforms.

In its latest August comparative review, Virus Bulletin has called ESET a “provider with a flawless record” and refered to ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 as “simple to install”, “very speedy updates” “combining unfussy good looks with comprehensive finetuning controls”. And VB continues: “ESET adds another VB100 award to its tally, maintaining its 100% pass record going back over a decade”. ESET NOD32 technology has received more VB100 awards than any other AV software vendor on the market.

From October 2 until October 4, 2013, ESET researchers are taking part and presenting at the Virus Bulletin 2013 Conference in Berlin with Andrew Lee, CEO ESET North America, delivering a keynote speech.

“The events of the last few years from Bradley Manning to Edward Snowden have brought with them a tranche of new ethical issues. On the one hand the ‘old-school’ approach is to see malware, detect malware, but it is increasingly likely that in future (if not already) companies will come under pressure from government agencies and perhaps be compelled by law, to avoid detection, disclose data or report on customer activity. Is there a need for a collective response from the industry?,” states Andrew Lee in his conference abstract which highlights the content and philosophy of his address. “What are the issues around trusting sample or vulnerability sharing with companies known to share (or to be compelled to share) such information with governments?,” continues CEO of ESET North America.

In his keynote speech, Andrew Lee aims not to provide definitive answers, but tries to open a wider conversation by examining some of the issues and asking the relevant questions.

ESET Sets Record for Consecutive Virus Bulletin Awards with 80th VB100 Award

ESET VB100 Win #80ESET, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a 25-year track record of developing award-winning technology, today announced it has received its 80th VB100 Award from Virus Bulletin, a renowned independent security software testing organization. This makes 2013 the 10th consecutive year that ESET has been recognized by the organization.

“ESET is proud to have never missed a single ‘In-the-Wild’ worm or virus in Virus Bulletin since we began testing in 1998,” said Andrew Lee, CEO, ESET North America. “ESET has now received more VB100 awards than any other antivirus vendor in the market. This level of consistency underscores our dedication to our customers and our commitment to superior products.”

ESET NOD32® was tested in the Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 environment and achieved impressive results.

“The interface is similar to that of the vendor’s usual consumer offerings: slick and stylish with an excellent level of configuration available,” the report states. “Detection was splendid, with good scores everywhere, and no problems in the WildList or clean sets,” it adds.

The VB100 award is well-regarded in the antivirus and malware community due to the stringent testing requirements. Tested solutions must detect 100 percent of malware samples listed as ‘In the Wild’ by the WildList Organization and generate no false positives when scanning. An extensive test sample is used during testing and solutions are used out of the box in the VB lab environment. Re-testing is not allowed.

The 80th VB100 Award is not the only test and certification highlighting the superior quality of ESET products on all platforms. During 2012, ESET won the PCMag Consumer Recommended Award based on feedback from 25 million users worldwide in its inaugural year for Security Suites and Stand Alone Antivirus products. Similarly, ESET scored high in TechTarget’s Information Security Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards 2012 and was recognized in 2012 by Frost & Sullivan for a second year in a row with a North America Customer Value Enhancement Award. The award recognizes ESET for continued innovation, focus on customer value and impressive market expansion.

ESET wins VB100 award number 78 in February 2013

ESET VB100 Win #78In a smaller than normal Virus Bulletin test, ESET once again shone out as a winner. This round of tests only yielded one failure (avast!) – during the tests of anti-malware products for SUSE Linux. ESET was in fine company of fellow VB100 award winners this month with fellow vendors such as Kaspersky Labs and Bitdefender also taking vb100 trophies as prizes.

About Virus Bulletin

Virus Bulletin started in 1989 as a magazine dedicated to providing PC users with a regular source of intelligence about computer malware, prevention, detection and removal, as well as information on how to recover programs and data following an attack.

VB100 certification schemes

For many years, Virus Bulletin has carried out independent comparative testing of anti-malware products. The unique VB100 certification scheme is widely recognized within the industry.

The VB100 award is a certification of products which meet the basic standards required to be recognised as legitimate and properly functioning anti-malware solutions.

To display a VB100 logo, a product must:

  1. prove it can detect 100% of malware samples listed as ‘In the Wild’ by the WildList Organization
  2. generate no false positives when scanning an extensive test set of clean samples

All this must be done with default, out-of-the-box settings in the VB lab environment.

ESET’s VB100 Award History

ESET has a strong showing in the tests performed by Virus Bulletin, holding more VB100 awards than any vendor. This award is number 78!
