NOD32 Antivirus Software Aces Detection and Excels in Performance Tests on Windows XP

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2006--ESET, a global provider of security software for enterprises and consumers, today announced that ESET NOD32 Antivirus received its 38th VB 100% award in the June 2006 Virus Bulletin Comparative Review. ESET earned its latest VB 100% score in this test of Windows XP antivirus products, extending its eight-year track record as the vendor with the most awards. Virus Bulletin awards VB 100% scores to products that detect 100 percent of viruses from the WildList without false positives.

"NOD32 was the first product in this month's test with which I could find no real fault," reported Matt Ham, in his final comparative review for Virus Bulletin. "Full detection across all test sets and a lack of false positives leave me with little to comment on and earn ESET a well-deserved VB 100% to add to its collection."

Microsoft's Malware Report: 60 Percent of PCs Infected

Microsoft on Monday revealed the results of a 15-month test of its Malicious Software Removal Tool. The utility that seeks out and destroys malware reported malicious programs, or bots, on six out of 10 Windows computers it examined.

Microsoft made the announcement at the Tech Ed conference in Boston, leaving little doubt that bots are pervasive on the Internet. Bots are automated programs that scan systems and Web sites. Search engine spiders that crawl the Web are good bots, but hackers use this same technology to control PCs so they can spread spam, attack Web sites or steal a victim's identity.
