NOD32 Renewed by Ontario Ministry of Education in 400,000 License Deal

SAN DIEGO - August 11, 2008 - ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced that the Ontario Ministry of Education (OME) has again selected ESET NOD32 Antivirus software to protect more than 400,000 networked computers.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus represents the third antivirus product licensed by the OME. Technology and threats to the classroom desktop have evolved, and now desktop security calls for software that includes not only antivirus protection but also protection against other, emerging forms of malware, including spyware, adware, trojans, rootkits, keyloggers and phishing attacks.

The Ministry of Education administers the system of publicly funded French and English school boards in the province of Ontario, Canada, in accordance with the directions set by the provincial government. A total of 72 school boards oversee a total of approximately 5,000 schools with approximately 400,000 networked PC-based computers that are used by over 126,000 teachers and school administrators, and roughly two million students each day. Its classroom environment includes desktops and laptops running Windows 2000, XP and Vista, to Macintosh OSX. ESET NOD32 Antivirus has provided a secure solution for the entire range of Windows operating systems, at the same time making a minimal impact on system performance. The centralized management tool allowed technicians to deploy the product quickly and effectively and to manage updates.

"ESET NOD32 Antivirus has proven to be a sound investment for us. In terms of proactive protection, speed and small system footprint, it is without rival," said Doug Peterson, Computer in the Classroom Consultant of the Greater Esses County District School Board and member of the Ontario Software Acquisition Program Advisory Committee (http://www.osapac.org/). "We look forward to many more years of online threat protection."

ESET products are powered by ThreatSenseŽ technology, an advanced heuristics engine that enables proactive detection of malware not covered by even the most frequently updated signature-based products. Unlike traditional solutions, ESET NOD32 Antivirus decodes and analyzes executable code in real-time, using an emulated environment. By allowing malware to execute in a secure virtual world, ESET is able to clearly differentiate between benign files and even the most sophisticated and cleverly-disguised malware.

Editor's note: The school board has direct responsibility for keeping its schools' computers protected from viruses, spyware, adware and other emerging online threats. School boards can decide to install this provincially licensed product or use any other product that meets their needs.
