SAN DIEGO – February 21, 2008 – ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced an agreement with the SUBWAY® restaurant chain, the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise. Under terms of the agreement, SUBWAY’s 23,000+ US/CA merchants are able to deploy ESET NOD32® Antivirus software directly on their point-of-sale (POS) terminals, protecting the computer systems from increasingly sophisticated threats.

“SUBWAY’s POS machines are mission critical to our restaurants’ successful operation, handling hundreds of transactions per day. Subway franchisees depend on the POS to work at optimum speed, moving customers quickly through the line. Therefore, it is critical that each of these machines is not hindered by malware that can slow or shut down systems,” said Marina O’Rourke, SUBWAY’s director of retail technology, who oversees testing and implementation.
Eset is presenting an Internet Security suite at CeBIT (hall 6, stand J16). Eset Smart Security adds a firewall and antispam function to the existing NOD32 virus scanner.

The solution goes easy on computer resources even though it provides better protection for systems by integrating components. Eset has announced a public beta version that can be downloaded starting on 2nd April 2007; interested parties can, however, already have a look at Smart Security at the vendor's stand.
According to the latest data from ESET's ThreatSence.Net, the top three threats to computer users in February were all new to the top ten.

In first place is Win32/Nuwar.gen 3.65%, part of the family of worms that has achieved wide propagation since the beginning of the year. Second in the ranking for February is a web-based threat, HTML/TrojanClicker.Agent.A, which reached 3.63% of detections during last month. This threat is a trojan that exploits web browser vulnerabilities to download other malware components. Finally adware, Win32/Adware.Yisou, which has been particularly widespread among Asian users, pops up in third place with 3.14%.
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 15, 2007 -- The furor over "Norwich vs. Amero" continues to grow as IT managers and teachers alike realize that they may be at risk. This week's Malware Report covers basic tips teachers and IT managers must follow to prevent facing the same fate as the 38-year-old substitute teacher, Julie Amero. Quoted in the podcast is Nancy Willard of the Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use, who says, "In Connecticut, there is now a precedent: if the school district's technical system is not absolutely, totally secure and if there is ever a situation where a student accidentally views pornography or spyware is accidentally downloaded which delivers pop-up porn sites, then whatever teacher is supposed to be supervising the students is at high risk of arrest and conviction."
